How Do I Share My How-To?

It's really pretty easy, pictures and videos of the steps it takes to complete your project are stored on YouTube and picasaWeb. Once your "final" video is stored on YouTube, your project will show in the listings on the site. All this is controlled by our Creator's Tools. Basically, you start a project by writing up the project idea.

Step 1. Sign up for a free Creator's Account to gain access to the Creator's Tools.

Step 2. Login

Step 3. Push the "Create New Project" button on the Creator's Tools. Make a name (you can change it later) for your project. And describe your plans to use as notes to guide the creation of the steps.

Step 4. When you've finished providing all the steps to your project, shooting the videos and saving to google video via the Creator's Tool Panel, you are ready to write the introductory paragraph with an interesting story of how you did it, or how you do it in the case of a professional services presentation.

Step 5. Last but not least create and upload the video (to YouTube) which is the video that will be used to summarize the project. If you were building a robot, this final video would show the robot running around, doing fun things that will inspire others to create their version of your project.

That's it... Watch the views and ratings for your project pile up along with the sales commissions! Or get a customer because you showed how you remodel a house.

FAQ About Becoming A Creator

Q. Why would I go to all that work, building something, then put it on a website like C What I Can Do? What's the point?

A. Actually, there are a couple of forms for a reward:

  1. You get rated as an author. Lots of good ratings looks good on your resume.
  2. You Make Money!

YOU Make Money when someone buys a part from You, and builds it into Their Version of your project. And, if YOU have a basement full of red leds and build a red led project - we'll send you customers who are inspired to build your blinking light device. If you sell PC boards, you may link to your own sales. Or sell your own kit online through your e-Bay store.

The same with books! We encourage project builders to make books. In fact, CwhatIcanDo is a great place to get rated as an author. 'Betcha get a better deal from your publisher...

Of course, it is possible that your project won't make you any money, because someone built something even cooler than yours (maybe even inspired by your project.) Maybe you just want to show your version of another project... It's done in the spirit of the web: Sharing ideas. And it's fun building a project on your own.

CwhatIcanDo Website      ...     32039 Views
Author's name: Jim

CwhatIcanDo.com allows everyone to view the results of Project Creators.

For experimenters: A place to organize your project in steps (as many as you need) using pictures or videos to explain to others "how-to" create this project.

For professionals: Another place to add videos or pictures of your finished work, so people who are looking for your company`s goods or services can see examples of your work. Sell your projects via kits, books, instructions, etc..

For either, a set of development tools created to permit you to show in step by step form how to do it yourself, or how a process or procedure is done.

So, whether you are building street cred for an addition to your resume, or trying to sell parts kits for a home built scooter or birdhouse. You can give others the chance to buy a kit of parts from you, the creator.

In fact, thats one of the differences between CwhatIcanDo and other do it yourself or weekend project websites. You, as a creator of a project can make money by selling your project parts through a distributor with which CwhatIcanDo has agreements.

Thus when CwhatIcanDo refers someone to a parts source, simply by clicking a link this website makes a commission from the sale which CwhatIcanDo splits with the creator.

You got it. Showing off your project on CwhatIcanDo gives you a chance, not just for glory, but for Money$$$$$!

Organization
This website was planned by using LAMP, and EXT 2.x.

Where it is appropriate this site shifts the processing load between browser and the desktop. How?

The first exposure of the user of the website is through the logical connection, so the server examines :

* User's Connection Speed
* User's processing capacity
* Anonymous User information as needed to allow appropriate connection

That's the way the site begins operation.
Step 1. Technical Conclusions And Architectural Approach
The architectural plane has landed. We have decided on the outside format and the creators pages, the "inside" database formats, layouts, etc.

Note to ourselves: Be sure to watch for context, especially context changes.. User needs to know a context change has occurred.

Educational Aspects
We are seeding the site with various projects and are seeking authors who have an interest in not just watching robots in video or film, but in creating their own "creatures."

Here is the idea:
1. Part of the funding projects get through people buying their parts goes into a fund for teaching robotic basics to everyone.
2. The best "teachers" that is projects about robot basics, will create something new using the pool of money.
3. Then those basic "robots" are "given" to users who cannot otherwise afford them. Example: I make a small bot with a couple of motors, a pcb and a PIC chip. I make it programmable using open-source "free" software...

There are X categories of robot experimenters. Kids, no money, but lots of interest in learning. The web is like a catalog of things to learn about. These are special children who can develop the ability to contribute in amazing ways. Basically, these zero available income children have minds that are created with the desire to know - "How it works."

MID: Put in a search box... It would be helpful in finding things.

HIGH: parts List can't handle embedded asterisk.

HIGH: Hookup cwhaticandoprojects to YouTube...

MID: Cleanup For SEO... Organize main pgs for SEO optimization.

-----------------------------------------------
<h3>Creators Tools:</h3>

HIGH: SetUp the feedback (uf0) /view
see Attach to Step# Currently I'm thinking of a special Click Image in the header or somewhere that would attach $_ThisPage to the entry into the Forum... The same Forum we use for Creator's help page.

HIGH: *Seems confusing to have text left, pix right in some places , but different in others? [fixed it] Still Do Need to make 'em flippable (see creator page notes)

LOW: Be able to switch sides, or even No Image Wider print... (like choosing layouts in power point)

LOW: Give Creators a MyLinks page (use social net navigation set?) Add MyLinks for Admins and gods, displays on site under Admin Fav's or whatever...

Like in dan's links that he share with other ppl, like he did me... Different links for different ppl... Put you in the heirarchy so you can share compartments with friends...

MID: Make sure we are getting date:time stamps because some things might be time-relevant and should get archived...

HIGH: Method for entering the proper URL for YouTube, GoogleVid, picasaWeb, or just web URL. Way to insert the vidObj field in database. [fixed] ** Fix the thing so you can use the std EMBED VIDEO boxes when you put in a URL from google or youTube. Better still, fix an interface to the site.

LOW: The full text doesn't show in the show panel and edit... Like there isn't a long enough (text in php) type. Confuses you a plenty... Makes it look like it didn't take your data, but shows fine when you view the project...

LOW: Creator Tools and Techniques use like xxyyzz and GCP, where links are Yours Plus others??? Kewel...

MID: When you edit a Step, You only see the top box as you edit. I would expect to see the box I'm editing on top of the box where I'm editing.

MAYBE: Move drop down to left column Top?

-------------------------------------
<h3>view/</h3>
HIGH: Need ratings... for project, vote mechanism, Authors Voting, Summary, etc...

-------------------------------------
<h3>Ways to look at things:</h3>

HIGH: Reserve the right for display means we control the presentation, links to our distributors may override the creator's suggestion, etc... use gitHub, or better still Zazzle legal docs as base.

LOW: Let me do a row of smaller pix and videos in a media bar. When I rollover a small one it expands and plays.

LOW: Projects Need Skill Level Ratings EZ, middle - weekend project, Major - Special skills longer than a weekend.

LOW: Let users inventory their junkbox and then sort by "what I need to build a given project" - ..gt.. Projects that use this part.

------------------------------
LOW: Buy a license from extJs.com
